Abstract The erosion of debris flows on the material source will affect movement and impact flow. This paper adopted coupled SPH-DEM-FEM to establish a complex dynamic model particle-fluid-erosion-structure flow assess sedimentation analyse response retaining structure strain-softening was simulate transformation body from solid state transition finally into liquid state. numerical analysis completely reproduces test, fitting shape thickness profile well. process flow, height behind dam, deposition thickness, significantly influence both with without considering effects erosion. results this study are similar existing literature data, being consistent physical simulation tests in literature, verifying applicability coupling for assessing structures sedimentation. also found that is more pronounced than when not Coupled can potential effect sedimentation, making significant contribution assessment design structures.
